Annual Conference on Tuberculosis – 2016
On19th March, 2016 NATAB Anti-Tuberculosis organizes Annual Conference on TB with the theme “Zero Deaths, disease and Sufferings due Tuberculosis” at LGED Auditorium, Agargaon, Dhaka.
Begum Matia Chowdhury, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the Conference as Chief Guest. Dr. Md. Qamrul Islam , Line Director , Director MBDC TB, Leprosy, NTP, DGHS, Md. Nurul Fazal Bulbul, Founder Director, EXIM Bank Ltd., Dr. Md.Akramul Islam, Director – TB, Malaria, WASH, BRAC gave their valuable speeches and Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Asif Mujtaba Mahmud, Joint Secretary of NATAB and Senior technical Advisor, CTB, MSH. Mr. Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, President, NATAB Central Executive Committee presided the conference. Mr. Khairuddin Ahmed Mukul , Secretary General NATAB welcomed everybody.
The speakers said that to reach the theme of the conference “Zero Deaths, disease and Suffering due to Tuberculosis” , Engagement of communities, civil society organizations and public private care providers. To stop TB, different factors should be noticed, early diagnosis and treatment, provide special heath care facilities to the migrated village people to urban and it is very urgent to control Tobacco use through awareness and enforcement.
Mr. Mozaffar Hossain Paltu said that NATAB Volunteers is working in country level to ensure that governments remain strongly committed to implementing TB control policies. NATAB influencing policy-makers, funders and international decision-making bodies through a variety of channels – conferences, summits and symposia, celebrity spokespeople, meetings between various levels of government and civil society organizations, news coverage, official memoranda of understanding (MOUs), parliamentary debates and other political events, partnership meetings, patients’ organizations, press conferences, private physicians, radio and television talk shows, service providers.
NATAB volunteers aims to change knowledge, attitudes and practices among various groups of people.It frequently informs the public of the services that exist for diagnosis and treatment and relays a series of messages about the disease – such as “seek treatment if you have a cough for more than three weeks”, “TB hurts your lungs” or “TB is curable”, “TB treatment is free of cost” etc.
Mr. Mozaffar Hossain Paltu said that people with different complication came to health facility centers due to tobacco use . Two types of costing arouses there. One is Out-of-pocket expenditures borne by households and another costs borne by the health system in the public sector, again from premature deaths and disabilities of smokers income of that family losses. Total expenditure due to tobacco illness is too much above the revenue earning by the government from the Tobacco. He also requested Hon. Minister that tobacco cultivation should reduce to save the fertile agricultural lands.
Honorable minister asserted the audience that she will raise all the issues in the parliament. She also acknowledged that without involving civil society, it is not possible to control TB. NATAB can take part in policy making, perusing knowledge and innovation that can dramatically change TB prevention and care, can remove stigma, superstition from mind of general population, can drive them for early diagnosis, early care seeking for TB services and can motivate them.
